A bedraggled crew

A bedraggled crew
of braying braggarts.
Ragged edged
and garrulous
as here
remote and morose
I recall
those flag-waving days.
Who else remembers?

When we drank in Roddy’s.
I hollered.
You hollered.
They hollered.
Everybody hollered.
Hollered on a great wave
of glorious madness.
Hollered as in some enormous jest
about ourselves
and all the other
assholes of the world.

Where are they now
except in memory?
Hollerin’ hollerin’
Hollerin’ still
and not a one
as would ever pause
to listen.
